As we have been charged by the denomination to become a 'Matthew 25 Church,' the Presbytery of Detroit's leadership has begun the process of identifying systemic racism through an anti-racism training led by Michigan Roundtable. The process for some has been uncomfortable. We were made aware in the beginning of our training that there would be moments of discomfort. As I have witnessed the discomfort of my colleagues, I am reminded of the physical, mental, and spiritual discomfort of those who have been and are currently being oppressed. I've heard it said, "If you're going to examine yourself, it's going to be painful." The link to the article below shares how the Presbyterian Mission Agency Board is assessing the 'power and privilege dynamics' within their board. As we move into the 'Church' God is calling us to be, each one of us is responsible for our actions (or inaction.)
'Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ Matt 25:45

"This video, created collaboratively by the Hispanic/Latino-a Intercultural Congregational Support, Presbyterian Publishing Corporation, and the Hispanic/Latinx National Presbyterian Caucus, reflects the sentiments of the many Latin American communities who are part of the Presbyterian Church (USA).
We wanted to share with our church our solidarity with all people of color in the PCUSA, but specifically the Black community inside and outside the church, after the murder of Mr. George Floyd, the latest example of systemic racism and the ongoing police brutality against African Americans in the United States.
Latinx people stand and walk and scream along with those who march daily demanding equality and a stop to institutional racism. We also have faith that someday, the words of the Prophet Amos will resonate true in our country and the world: But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!"
